I Need a Laptop Stand!

My not so trusty ISP decided to die on me yesterday, for no apparent reason. So thanks to Screamyx, I was without connection the whole day and night, which saw poor Mariuca climbing walls and feeling more than just a little restless; angrily waiting for my connection to return!

I could not get my work done for my clients (fortunately I managed to get an extension), I could not drop EC, I could not click on Adgitize ads and I could not post here at all. My laptop took an immediate rest from any online activities and the only thing I could still enjoy on my laptop without connection was to play PC games! Since there was no need for me to be inside my office yesterday, I decided to play games in my living-room instead of being cooped up inside the office. So that was what I did yesterday; played all my favourite time management games on my laptop until there was nothing left to play!

The good thing about having a laptop is that I can carry it with me wherever I want. The drawback to using my laptop in my living-room however is that we only have one big coffee table, which is rather low in height. And that makes it quite uncomfortable for me to sit on my couch and play my games on the coffee table; I have to bend myself lower in order to see my screen properly. I usually end up with a back ache after using my laptop on the coffee table. It's just too low for comfort. So while sitting on my couch yesterday, sadly passing time by playing my games; it hit me that I should probably get a laptop stand!

Weekend Game Shopping

Yesterday saw us heading to our favourite PC game store in Atria. After 37 hours of being awake, I finally retired at 6am earlier that morning and slept for the next 11 hours! When I awoke, there was just time to check my email and reply to some blog comments before I had to get ready for dinner!

It was my suggestion to visit the game store in Atria. It's been a while since I said hello to the friendly Uncle there. I was in the mood for some game shopping and this store here is our favourite. Besides there's also a restaurant there, which serves the most delicious clay pot chicken rice. So after a very late lunch, I got myself some new Time Management games, which I love! Playing games on my laptop makes for a wonderful stress-reliever. It is a great light and easy distraction for me to unwind from the stress of working on the big technical translation job I did over the week.

B on the other hand settled for the more challenging world of warcraft battle chest. I took one look at the game and immediately surrendered. I knew it would be a losing cause for me to even try figuring out this one! I've never understood the fascination with role-playing games and seriously doubt I have the patience to play one long enough to find out!

The good news is that I found an excellent site for B to truly experience the full excitement of this game with other online players. I also did a little reading and found out more about this game. Apparently, players assume the roles of Warcraft heroes; braving through adventures and quests across an expansive Warcraft universe! As a Massive Multiplayer game, World of Warcraft allows thousands of players to interact within the same fantasy world to pit against each other in battles, forge friendships and alliances, and compete with enemies to gain ultimate might and glory.

It sounds a little like Triumph at Facebook but judging from the box, I know this one is way more complicated and intense! So I'll forget about being adventurous and will sit this one out. Let B do all the planning and battling for this game. I'll stick to my easier more relaxing time management games, thank you! It is 5.24 am right now and I have just finished a translation job for one of my clients. After yet another busy day of work, house cleaning, EC dropping and commenting, I am finally free to indulge in one of my favourite hobbies - PC games! :)

Shopping Weekend

The weekend is finally here and since we had nothing major planned or any errands to run, B and I decided to go shopping. We only had two very important things in mind, which we've been meaning to buy for quite some time, but only got around to doing so today.

The first thing on our list is a nice new lamp to brighten up our balcony in time for the Raya (Eid Mubarak) celebration that's coming up soon. I had checked out Farrey's the previous night and this site gave me some pretty good lamp ideas. Offering an endless array of lighting fixtures, lights, lamps and outdoor lighting in many different styles at the lowest prices, Farrey's left me spoiled for choice. I found some really neat designs here but since I'm not that high-maintenance of a gal, I don't want anything too fancy like the quoizel lighting. Something simple like this sweet Capistrano lamp from the fine art lamps collection is perfect in my eyes!

Ever since the Dead Body Outside My Window incident, I've not gone out to the balcony. Each time I venture near, I find myself picturing what I witnessed that fateful night. I figured new lighting will help make my balcony more cheery and help me forget all the unfortunate incidents that had befallen us these last few months. Furthermore, with Raya coming up, it's also a good time for me to decorate our home, starting with a new lamp for our balcony! ;)

The next thing on our list was a PC game for B! He's been wanting to buy the new Command & Conquer 3, so after shopping for lighting, that was the main agenda on our list. We went to two different shopping centres before we finally located his game at One Utama.

When we got home, B was so excited to try out his new toy. It was nice to see him excited about something else besides football! He immediately installed the game, all geared to play the whole night long. Unfortunately, his excitement was short-lived, for even after following the installation instructions carefully, he could only play for about 5 minutes, before this error message below appeared. He reinstalled the game more than 10 times, but the same thing happened each time! :(

I wrote to the support site, asking for assistance but we've yet to hear from them. In the meantime, our friend G who dropped by after we got home, tried to figure out this error as well but to no avail. G even called up some of his gamer buddies to see if they know anything about this error, but nobody seems to know. So now, both B and I are very upset with his gaming predicament. We've already spent more than 2 hours researching the internet for some information and apparently, this is a normal error that seems to affect many people, who encountered the same error after installing this game. In terms of specifications, B's PC and video card meet the requirements for this game and yet this irritating error keeps on showing up! Any gamers out there that could shed some light on our little predicament? It's a pity we spent RM130 for this new game, only to have it sitting there unplayed so any helpful tip is much appreciated. Back from War!

Hi, my name is Marzie and I'm addicted to Facebook...there, I finally admitted it! After months of telling myself not to fall into the FB trap and end up being one of those FB junkies, here I am finding myself logging on to FB every few hours of the day and night, for no other reason than to play Triumph, my latest FB game craze! As hard as I try to stay away from Triumph, I seem to fail miserably so far and there's no denying it for some of my other blog friends as well. I see some of you logging on at odd hours of the day and night too, just to play this game! ;)

In Triumph, you are basically fighting other players for more land to build on, money to build residences to increase your population or commercial zones and power, and battle experience to improve your ranking. Starting off as a Private, you have to continue your battle in order to move up and ultimately earn the rank of Captain. I've been stuck at Sr. Sergeant First Class for more than a week now. I've also been under heavy attack and the money flow has not been good either, so it was somewhat difficult for me to reinforce my army for retaliation. But today, after much effort and numerous defeats, I finally won the last 12 points I needed for my promotion and am now a Master Sergeant! :)

I'd love to take a break and enjoy my victory for a while, but I see some of my favourite Triumph friends are busy battling too, so there's more work to do! Sergeant Major GK is quickly gaining momentum and has already exceeded me in terms of rank. By the way, it was GK's incessant requests for me to join Triumph that made me try this FB application, so I blame my addiction on him LOL! And then, there's Sr. Sergeant First Class Emila trailing closely behind; who's also improving and gaining more land by the day. The ultimate mover among my Triumph friends this past week however, is definitely Master Sergeant Helmy, who only recently joined me in this Triumph craze. He has moved leaps and bounds within days to quickly catch up and beat me in this crazy battle. At the rate he's going, he will definitely move rank faster than me! ;)

I'm not sure if it's the satisfaction of winning or the need to move up in rank that lures me to log on every few hours to check my status and use whatever money I've earned to build up my army; strengthening them for more attacks before going off to war. Either way, I am totally hooked on Triumph and I'd love to see more of my blog buddies there - it's always more fun when you can share your addiction with friends! ;)

So I hope you can forgive me for being MIA these past few days; as you can see I've been away at war but I'll be back in the Blogworld soon! Games Galore!

Besides B and work, there are two things that can possibly keep me away from the Internet - when my PC or my ISP lets me down OR when I'm hooked on a new PC game! And right now, I'm hooked on several new games. Work has been quite slow for me these past few weeks and there are no major projects that I'm currently working on. So I'm taking this time to catch up on some new PC games.

One of my favorite game genres is time management and my latest craze is Monster Mash. In this game, the villagers of Curly Valley are under attack from some very quirky and bizarre monsters. Your mission is to prevent these mysterious invaders by fortifying Curly Village with various towers, upgrades and defensive armors. There are more than 25 increasingly powerful tower upgrades and 9 unique storybook-inspired scenes. Protect the villagers from the monsters and you'll save Curly Village! I really enjoyed this game and it was pretty challenging too. The last scenario especially was the most difficult. I stayed up the whole night trying to win this level and only managed to complete the whole game after a week! I can't wait for Monster Mash 2 to come out! :)

Another game that I'm currently into is The Sims Carnival SnapCity. Brought to you by the creators of The Sims, this unique city-building simulation game comes with a puzzle twist. By dropping the falling, color-coded blocks into place, you can build industrial, commercial, and residential neighborhoods to assemble the best possible city. I prefer to build my dream city in Creativity mode. Otherwise, you can try to win goals by rebuilding and improving your city in Story Mode`s 25 unique neighborhoods. And watch out for the natural disasters, catastrophes, and even alien attacks that invade your city when you least expect them! I much prefer this game than SimCity Societies as it has more Sim City features. Nowhere near as challenging as Sim City itself, The Sims Carnival SnapCity does however make a great light & easy version of the original.

So now that the weekend is here, and I don't have any outstanding jobs to worry about, I'll be free to indulge in a whole weekend of fun and games with all the new PC games I've been missing out on. I'm also excited to see what The Sims Castaway Stories is all about. Based on reviews, it sounds and looks promising.

SimCity Societies

When B first introduced me to Sim City, we had just started dating. I thought it was the coolest game ever! Now, it’s six years later and with 3 cats and a place of our own, I still find myself very much engrossed with this PC game. Even though I've discovered many other new games after it, Sim City 4 remains as my all-time favourite!

I love being Mayor Marzie; designing and building my settlement in hopes of turning it into a successful city, zoning the different commercial, industrial and residential areas and managing my finances, environment and quality of life to keep my residents happy. Most importantly, it is the thrill and challenge of deriving as much income possible from my city that keeps me glued to the PC for hours on end whenever I'm in one of my Sim City phases! I once accumulated an income of 1 billion from my city and the rush of finally hitting the jackpot was simply amazing! It felt like I’ve finally “conquered” this game.

Yesterday, I found out that SimCity Societies, which is the latest Sim City, was finally released last week! I immediately researched this new game online, anticipating the thrill I’d soon savour playing it. I could hardly wait to see the new buildings and features, the landmarks and rewards awaiting me and even started reading its manual online to give myself a head start. Simply put, I could not wait for B to bring home the new game!

So imagine my disappointment when I discovered that most reviews this game received were unfavourable! Complaints mostly focused on the fact that it doesn’t really resemble other city simulators, specifically Sim City 4. The maps are small and fairly uninteresting, and there isn't any terraforming to work on improving your maps. There's also no region level so your cities can’t interact. Apparently, this new game is by no means, comparable to any of the previous SimCity versions and shouldn't be associated with Sim City at all!

I'm actually pretty bummed out by the reviews; they weren’t what I was expecting at all. Perhaps die-hard Sim City fans like me have too high of an expectation when it comes to this game. Nonetheless, I'm still optimistic about this release and am looking forward to seeing what SimCity Societies is all about. After all, I’ve endured many agonizing years waiting for the release of Sim City 5 so the least I can do is check out the next best thing to it. Hopefully it’ll be able to satisfy my craving until the real Sim City 5 does come out. And if all else fails, I still have my Cake Mania, Diner Dash, Delicious Deluxe and Burger Shop to entertain me. Anyway, here's hoping for the best and if you don't see me for the next few days, that just means I'm busy building my new city! Good night.
