Scared Silly!

The TV was blaring outside in the living-room. B has been away since Thursday. I always have the TV on outside while I'm working in my office whenever B isn't around. It makes the whole place seem normal, almost as though B is right at home with me and the kids. He was away on a brainstorming session and was due home Saturday evening.

Inside my office, the three cats kept me company. I was busy multi-tasking as usual and had about 30 different tabs opened on my screen. That happens when I do my EC round. While busy dropping cards on my favourite blogs, I was also replying comments on both my blogs. My friend Monica had just returned home from a long 2-week vacation and we had a lot to catch up on!

I still had some work pending, which required another night of burning the midnight oil and lots of coffee. I got up from my chair to head into the kitchen and that was when I heard noises coming from outside the front door.

I tip-toed into the living-room and tried to ascertain if someone was knocking at my door or if it were just the noisy neighbours across us. The boys next door love to slide open their grille door really loudly, no matter what time of day or night it is. It was almost 2am, so any visitors at that hour was an unwanted one, if you know what I mean! Benji and the other two were gathered at the front door. It seems that they too heard the noises I initially thought I imagined!

Feeling a little panicky, I strained my ears, trying to convince myself that it was definitely my neighbour fumbling with his keys to get inside his home. By now, the sound of keys being put into MY front door lock was unmistakable! There was nothing left to do but find out who's outside my door. My eyes were fixed on the door knob and slowly I saw it moved. Taking a deep breath, I grabbed the nearest thing I saw, which was a can of air-freshener. Unsure what sort of damage it would do to my possible intruder, I willed myself to take a step closer and then the door slowly opened...

Smiling sheepishly, B poked his head in and despite looking exhausted, he managed to say SURPRISE! I stood there transfixed for a full minute before I could finally speak and laugh, from sheer panic and relief all in one! Apparently the brainstorming ended earlier and along with several other colleagues, he had decided to surprise me by coming home a day early. He even stopped to buy me a cheeseburger, knowing that I'd be too lazy to cook when he goes away (it's no fun eating alone) and that I'd surely be hungry, which was true!

As panicked as I had been just a few minutes earlier, it was nonetheless a huge relief and wonderful surprise to have B home a day early. After my initial shock, I forgave him for scaring me of course LOL! Now that he's back home safe and sound from his trip, I can breathe easy once more. Everything is back to normal in Mariuca's world and since Monday is a public holiday, what a great way to start my 3-day weekend! :)
