Continuing from where I left you at Madame Tussauds, it was late afternoon by the time we finally ended our tour and shopping at the gorgeous gift store inside the museum. B and I walked out into the afternoon sun and though it was a little chilly, we felt great and continued shopping for souvenir along the road from where the museum is located.
I can't remember how we got to Oxford Street but I do recall being approached by several travel reps, luring me with cheap flights to Europe complete with Lisbon apartments listings on promotion at that time. Interested? You bet but seeing that we were pressed for time, I just took some brochures with me and stuffed them inside my already-full shopping bag!
We were ravenous and looked around for a nice restaurant to dine in. I felt like having fish and chips so we walked until we came to a cosy-looking restaurant serving fish & chips! It looked inviting and the weather was getting colder so we hurried inside and got a table for two.
We ordered just one plate because servings are huge and based on experience in other restaurants; we could never finish two separate meals on our own. So we shared a plate of delicious hot prawns & chips, which by the way came with a generous serving of tartare sauce. Don't you just love tartare sauce? I refuse to eat fish and chips (in this case prawns) without this tangy sauce and this one was so yummy!
It was actually our last day in London and the next day we'd be travelling to Manchester with the rest of the gang. We were both exhausted from a very long day but we didn't want to miss shopping, sightseeing and of course taking photos on our last day in London, along Oxford Street and Regent Street as well.
Remember I mentioned we took 400+ photos at Madame Tussauds using two different cameras? Well that included some video clips as well so by the time we were in Oxford St. shopping and dining, both camera batteries were already weak hence the lack of photos here.
One of the things on our agenda was to visit Hamleys, along Regent Street, which was where B got lost when he was a little boy. To relive his childhood memories, we searched for Hamleys, one of the largest toy stores in the world. It was not easy and we must have walked for twenty minutes or more before we finally spotted the huge store sign and the crowd right in front of the area.
At Hamleys, we witnessed a little accident where a small girl maybe around 8 years old got one foot stuck in the escalator! Fortunately, only her shoe was trapped so she managed to wriggle her foot out of her shoe and hopped over to safety! Quick to respond, the personnel managed to retrieve the girl's shoe within minutes so that was good. I hope she got free toy vouchers or something for the scare she endured!
It was dark by the time we took the tube back to our hotel. I was tired from the museum, the walking and the shopping but was happy to have spent our last day in London shopping with my Darling. Inside the tube, I took out the brochures of Lisbon and the promotional Lisbon accommodation, just for fun. For now it's London but who knows perhaps sometime soon you'll see me blogging from Portugal?
Next up on our European Escapade - Manchester and the big football match we were scheduled to watch, go Liverpool!
