Yummy Lontong At Last!

Okay, okay...I know I'm supposed to be on a diet, and I have been doing quite well, for the most part! Ever since my diet started,
I have been learning to adopt a healthier lifestyle and eating habit, which is also one of my NY resolutions. I've added more greens (long beans sambal below is one of my favourite vegetables) and protein to my meals whilst reducing my carbohydrate intake. I have also been experimenting with lots of new healthy recipes and I believe I have been pretty good with my diet resolve until...

Sambal Long Beans

... last weekend when we discovered this little stall in Homst Restaurant (Kota Damansara) selling Lontong Singapore, which just so happens to be one of Mariuca's favourite food! Obviously, I couldn't refuse this yummy delight when B happily brought it home as a surprise for me, so there was no dieting for me last weekend! By the way, Lontong consists of nasi impit (compressed rice cubes) served with mixed vegetable (long beans, carrots and cabbage) coconut milk gravy, topped with generous sambal (spicy chilli gravy), spicy coconut crumbs and hard-boiled eggs.

It is not easy to find delicious authentic Lontong here. Among several others, I've tried the one at Laksa Shack, which left me horrified at its exorbitantly high price of RM9.90 compared to RM4.50 for the Lontong I had here. Don't get me wrong; I don't mind paying for a good meal and I don't consider RM9.90 expensive but for that price, I was expecting more than just half an egg! I was also looking forward to devouring some tempe (a type of bean curd) or even some sotong (cuttlefish) but none of that was included in Laksa Shack's Lontong! Instead, it was practically a vegetarian dish (which would have been fine if I were actually looking for one!) with only vegetables and half a boiled egg thrown in for good measure! Laksa Shack's sambal was also not as spicy or tasty as I would have liked it, so there will definitely be no repeat performance for me there.

I'm really quite happy to discover this new stall, which serves yummy Lontong at a reasonable price! Unlike Nasi Lemak, which is one of my specialities, I have no idea how to cook Lontong. It looks like a lot of work too, so I'll stick to having it bought and not home-cooked. For those of you who like this dish, feel free to dig in and enjoy a nice Lontong meal with me here. And for those unfamiliar with Lontong, now is a good time to grab a taste. Bon appétit! :)
