Sunshine After the Rain

The greatest comeback story I know is one that remains close to my heart.
It is a story of courage and conviction; one that leaves me greatly inspired. And though it is a sad love tale that ended in devastation, it brought with it a new beginning towards a brighter tomorrow.

Like any other clandestine affair, the relationship started as purely platonic before culminating into a full-fledge love affair of tangled lies, deceit and betrayal. When she discovered his unthinkable affair with the other woman, she was understandably devastated. Though her entire world fell apart instantly, she willed herself to remain strong. Her only focus was keeping her family intact; defending them from the clutches of the evil outsider who dared to overturn her throne as queen of his home and heart for the past twenty-two years.

The unrelenting battle she bravely put up for the sake of her marriage brings tears to my eyes whenever I think about it. Putting aside her wounded pride, she was willing to forgive his infidelity so long as he returned home, to her and their two children. When given the choice, he made the perplexing decision to walk away; forever abandoning and severing all ties they once shared as husband and wife.

Completely unexpected, his decision to end their marriage drove her to the brink of insanity. The thought of separating her children from their once doting dad, left her in hysterics. Without any form of closure for the sudden manner in which he abandoned her, many questions remained
unanswered. Left with no choice, she started forming her own conclusions for the demise of their marriage, which only led to further self-loathing and doubting her abilities as a wife, mother and friend. Living in total disarray, she continued drowning her sorrow by reminiscing about the perfect life she once enjoyed.

With the love and support of her two children and family, she eventually came to terms with the harsh reality surrounding her and slowly eased into her new role as a single mother. It was time to rebuild her life and start anew. She began by investing all her savings into a small flower shop, which gradually flourished into a profitable business; allowing her to diversify into many other ventures including running her own cafe and arts & crafts class.

Many years passed before
she was able to fully embrace and appreciate life again. At long last, she had found the inner strength to forgive the man who shattered her heart and her dreams by relegating him to a mere figment of her imagination. Though she has forgiven his infidelity, she will never forget the pain his love had brought into her life. Ironically, it is this pain that drives her to strive for a brighter future without him.

Today, she is a headstrong woman whose zest for life defies her wise age of 67. After years of sweat and tears, she is able to sit back and enjoy the fruits of her labour by spending most of her time working from home, travelling or hanging out with friends and family. Hale and hearty, she is currently enjoying a contented life as a single mother, blessed with her two loving children, supportive friends and all the comforts one could possibly hope for at her age. Looking at her now, it is hard to fathom how she had almost given up on life during her darkest hour some eighteen years ago.

I never tire of listening to her comeback story for it never ceases to amaze me. The way she successfully turned her setback into a great comeback continues to inspire; reminding me that hope is always within reach and failure does not have to be forever. When life throws you a curveball, you have to be ready for its unpredictability by believing in your strengths and holding on to faith. Only then will the
clouds eventually disappear, bringing with it a ray of sunshine and hope for second chances and new beginnings.

GP! What a sad yet wonderful story. Very inspiring how one setback can change into a wonderful opportunity. Every cloud has a silver lining. Everything that happened is a blessing in disguise. You just have to open your heart and mind to accept any circumstances that comes our way.

Thank you for sharing this story dearie and reminding us of what is important in life...muahsss!

Adrian February 12, 2008 2:31 PM

Yes it takes a lot of inner strength to overcome a loss of a loved one...more so when then loved one turns his back on you! You start doubting your very existance especially after having invested your life in the relationship that now is discarded like an old newspaper at the bottom of a birdcage. Kudos to the lady in the story for her endurance and strength to not only come out of this a better person but to have also raised two children while doing it!

Great story Marzie...as always! :)

The Bimbo February 12, 2008 8:16 PM

Wow. what a story.

I don't know if I'll ever be as strong as this woman. So stories like that really drives fear into my heart. Fear of getting married, of sharing a life with someone else. *sigh*

Trix February 12, 2008 10:28 PM

A deep story about a woman having to allow herself to accept and forgive, before healing could begin.I like this post, you have a wonderful way of writing, Miss M.. and I will check the link out as well.Hope you are having fun and I shall be there for my scramble game later :)
Hugs to Phoebe.. and purrs from afar

Mariuca February 12, 2008 11:25 PM

Mariuca February 12, 2008 11:27 PM

Oh yes Adrian!! I can feel your anger for this lady, being discarded after all the sacrifices and time she put into her marriage...so I too am glad that she managed to put the past behind her and is happy now.

Thanks for your comment GK, I know how busy u are with HW all lolz... :):):)

Mariuca February 12, 2008 11:30 PM

Hola Bobo! You gotta take that chance on love, so don't let previous experiences or sob stories you hear discourage you from finding real joy with that soulmate. Being married is one of the best feelings ever, wait and see! :):):)

Mariuca February 12, 2008 11:34 PM

Nicely said Miss J and thanks for reading. Do check out the link when you get the chance and here's a special Phoebe hug for u and ur Princess! :):):)

LadyJava February 12, 2008 11:40 PM

GP! I relate to this too as it holds some meaning in my life..but what I've learned is that what does not kill you only makes you stronger and everything happens for a reason. We only plan but ultimately HE decides everything. AND when I remember that, it consoles and I become more "redha" you know..:)

Mariuca February 12, 2008 11:51 PM

Wow, I'm so pleased you could relate to this post LJ! I guess, until you have gone through a heartbreaking experience like this, you won't be able to fully appreciate the lessons learned. It's great to find that silver lining in every cloud, that definitely is some form of consolation. I too take some things in the past as redha, it's good for the soul! :):)

LadyJava February 12, 2008 11:58 PM

It definitely is GP! Although sometimes like you say.. heart pain also lah... only human mahh....

One thing I've learnt is sometimes although sometimes we say we forgive, the heart refused to acknowledge and still hurt and hate.. that is something I am still trying to overcome... sob sob!!

Mariuca February 13, 2008 12:07 AM

Oh poor LJ! Don't worry, I also have forgiven but still tak forget, cause too much heartpain!! Like, I still can't believe that happened to me you know? The only cure I see is time, like they say, time heals all wounds. :):):)

LadyJava February 13, 2008 12:14 AM

I guess GP! But am still wondering why I get so angry whenever I think about it you know! Ish so frustrating eh!... anyway life goes on..

hugs for you and me GP!!

Mariuca February 13, 2008 12:18 AM

LJ, for me I can't help but get angry when thinking about "stuff" yang takde closure! That's the worst, cause you'll never know the reason! :( Thanks for the hug!

LadyJava February 13, 2008 12:20 AM

That's the worst kind of frustration.. no closure kan..coz like you say you don't know what happened and you don't know what to expect...takper GP! sabaq jer lah...dugaan!!! lolzz

Mariuca February 13, 2008 12:29 AM

So long as you don't get closure, you won't be puas hati! Like u said la LJ, redha.. ;)

LadyJava February 13, 2008 12:31 AM

Amin to that GP! :)

Mariuca February 13, 2008 12:37 AM

Thanks for the chat LJ, as usual it was my pleasure. Good night dearie! :)

What a beautiful story. I totally agree with the rest have said.. What a true inspiration!!

emilayusof February 13, 2008 3:34 AM

Marzie, I love the story, it's beautifully written. I think I know who you're referring too. Kudos! She is one brave lady and I salute her!

I've seen a person I love, struggle so much to make ends meet. I could see the pain in her eyes although she never shared it with her children. Her world shattered when the husband left her. She felt like the sky had crushed down on her. Now, I'm slowly trying to give her back the clouds. And rainbows too.

NIHAL February 13, 2008 3:56 AM

How very true ... setbacks, failures, obstacles, or whatever other misfortune you may call it, does not have to be forever ... as long as you have faith, and a goal in life, you will rise!

A great post, this is :)

Mariuca February 13, 2008 4:18 AM

No worries LJ, just try and beat GK's score k lolz...

Mariuca February 13, 2008 4:20 AM

Thank you Syura! She is a great inspiration to many others too. :):):)

Mariuca February 13, 2008 4:23 AM

Emila! Thanks for reading and I think I know who you're giving your rainbows to! ;)

And yes, "she" is one brave lady, someone I definitely admire. I'm still amazed at her strength and will, hope there'll be more happy days in store for her. :):):)

Mariuca February 13, 2008 4:26 AM

Hola Nihal, so nice to see you around more often. And thank you for ur comment. I believe faith is the most important thing for u to handle any obstacles in your life. Believe that things will be okay and everything will eventually fall into place! :):):)

Nick Phillips (15/03/1967 - 04/11/2022) February 13, 2008 8:33 AM

Hey Marzie, I think this story was one of the first times I ever commented in your blog. I'm glad to see there is a happy ending to it after all :D

I believe things happen for a reason, some good, some bad, some deserving, some undeserving but it's how we take it all in and learn to rise from the ashes is what matters, right?

Kudos to the lady anyway for her strong determination to succeed and live life the way she wants it!

Mariuca February 13, 2008 9:43 AM

Morning Nick! Oh I think you're referring to Love in Disarray, this is a different story actually. ;)

That's right, the lesson learned from the bad experience is something we'd eventually learn to appreciate when the pain finally goes away. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! :):):)

Nick Phillips (15/03/1967 - 04/11/2022) February 13, 2008 4:10 PM

Aww...what a beautiful story there. Women definitely possess the zest and inner strength in them, it's a matter of whether they wanna use it or not. And we're so glad to hear that this lady on your story chose to use it and then make an amazing comeback. =)

Mariuca February 15, 2008 3:59 PM

Hola NAFA, thanks for reading my story here. I'm glad too that this particular woman decided to use her setback as a source of inspiration for her to move on and make this comeback. I truly admire her strength! :):):)

Unknown February 17, 2008 1:22 AM

Bobby Revell February 19, 2008 2:41 AM

This is one of your best posts Marzie! I actually read it the day you wrote it but wasn't in the mood for a beautiful comeback story that day...haha.

Yes, we must have faith in ourselves and believe that things will be better. If any of us give up, we've already lost. Thanks for the inspiring story:)

Mariuca February 19, 2008 4:51 AM

Hi Bobby, thanks so much and I'm glad u're back! Thanks for reading, you're in the mood for a comeback story now? Does that mean you're feeling better? :):):)

Bobby Revell February 21, 2008 5:46 AM

When the anti-depressants were really wearing off (apparently it takes a very long time), it was unbearable. After being emotionally distraught for a while, I became extremely sleepy - literally sleeping for days.

I feel 100% better, my sleeping patterns are normal and I feel so relieved. I will contact Adrian and possibly write something! Thanks Marzie!!!:):):)

Mariuca February 21, 2008 7:20 AM

Poor Bobby! That doesn't sound too good, but hey, you're feeling much better now, which is wonderful news! Oh yes, I'll be looking forward to ur post for Adrian, hurry up already! :):):)
