Reconnected!

What I detest most when faced with an Internet disconnect is the fact that a huge part of my daily routine revolves in my home office, at my workstation, inside my PC. This means that everything I'm accustomed to doing and seeing after my morning coffee will be temporarily distorted until I am reconnected.

Yesterday, I was working on a copy for a financial client of mine, which required me to do some research on bad credit loans. This was a new job from a new client and it was imperative for me to impress them with both an excellent copy and great turnaround time. I was busy browsing through a site called Bad Credit Offers, which by the way is an excellent source to help "bad credit" consumers bounce back financially. You can compare a wide range of credit offers from major providers to ascertain which one best fits your needs. I was in the midst of reading how one can go about getting a FREE Credit Report when I was rudely disconnected from the Internet, which marked the beginning of my nightmare!

I called Streamyx immediately and the technical person who answered told me specifically that my line was fine and I had no outstanding payments due. He eventually diagnosed my network card as the problem and told me to replace it with a new one. Left with no choice, B got me a new network card after work, which saw him arriving home later than usual, at almost 10pm. He then spent almost 2 hours installing the new network card but to no avail; I was still unable to connect to the Internet! We spent another hour trying to figure out the reason for the failed installation before finally calling it quits for the night. By then, I was extremely frustrated and even contemplated on getting a new PC to solve this problem!

When I got up today, the first thing I did was to check my PC. I took a gamble on my old network card and decided to
use it to connect to the Internet instead of the new one ... and guess what? I was connected within seconds!

As ecstatic as I am to be reconnected to the Internet and the world again, I can't help wondering if my old network card was working fine all this while. When I had a connection breakdown several months back, Streamyx told me that my port needed to be reset and even filed a complaint for me. Through efforts of my own, I later discovered that it was my modem that was faulty and not the port! Could it be that Streamyx wrongly diagnosed my connection problem again? After all, they insisted that the fault was with my network card, which caused me unnecessary grief and stress for hours yesterday!

After many exasperating incidents with Streamyx, I have learned to be wary of them and with valid reasons too! They are rarely consistent in response to my queries and have yet to solve any of my complaints efficiently. I'm still waiting to experience the excellent level of customer service promised to me as a customer. I could go on and on about Streamyx but I still have that copy to work on. Plus, I think it's best to take advantage of my connection while it's fully working again. With Streamyx, you never know how long your connection will last!

Mariuca January 17, 2008 3:47 AM

That's what I suspected all along LJ! Some more, remember I asked u abt the old phone number thingy? Well, apparently they sent someone to my old address yesterday to fix the line there, instead of fixing the line at my current home!!! Hellllooooo, it's been 2 years since I moved and they can still get the wrong info..astaga!! :(

Anyway, B did most of the work, poor thing..all for nothing! ;)

LadyJava January 17, 2008 3:50 AM

Heart pain u know sometimes thinking abt this Streamyx, but what to do... still keen on checking out Maxis broadband but not sure if the additional cost is worth it. Not many ppl using Maxis broadband so far, need to do more research first! :):):)

LadyJava January 17, 2008 4:23 AM

How about Celcom? I heard it quite reasonable and also boleh harap..

Mariuca January 17, 2008 4:33 AM

My brother is using Celcom but I don't really understand how it works. He uses the prepaid card type, so as and when he needs the net, he tops up the card. Celcom punya is something like Maxis broadband is it?

LadyJava January 17, 2008 4:38 AM

Not sure how it works... I just heard about it only.. have not researched it or anything.. time to let the fingers do the researching??

Mariuca January 17, 2008 4:47 AM

Ok, I'll check it out then, thanks for the tip! Am willing to explore other options for B too. His ISP also not so good! ;)

LadyJava January 17, 2008 4:48 AM

Marzie, didn't you know that TMnet blames everyone and everything except themselves? Sometimes I wonder why they're still in business! Good to hear your connection is back up again.

If you really are looking to change, here's a few you can look into. First of get a Jaring broadband service. They have both wired and wireless. I'm using their wireless and it's served me well with hardly any problems. Their customer service is VERY reliable.

Secondly you can try EZ or something like that. They're new so I can't vouch for them. The rest don't bother.

Hope that helps a little ...

Mariuca January 17, 2008 1:01 PM

He he he...I know Nick but am still at their mercy for now. I'm keen to find out more about both ur options, thanks for the tip! The wireless jaring sounds very interesting, I love the sound of reliable customer service! :):):)

kimfei January 17, 2008 3:20 PM

sigh..what to do...streamyx still the biggest and fastest in the country..ideally there are fastest....i think i have to subscribe some Hspda braodband once i came out and work..

Mariuca January 17, 2008 3:26 PM

Yeah lor Kim Fei, but hey...what is this Hspda broadband all abt la? Never heard of it before! ;)

Nessa January 17, 2008 6:47 PM

Hey Marzie!

Take this from someone who used to work for that company for almost a decade... I had nightmares dealing with Internet related problems, even as an employee I couldn't get the support. I am not surprised with their level of service.

Try Jaring Broadband. It's the best. Customer service is Excellent :) Proven!

Mariuca January 17, 2008 7:02 PM

Wah I didn't know u were working with TMNet Nessa! This is good, first hand info from someone who actually worked there and agrees with me on their bad service lolz!!! I shall look into Jaring for sure, proven excellent CS some more! Thanks Nessa! :):):)

Odysseus January 17, 2008 11:50 PM

Streamyx? I don't wanna talk about it la..... can or not?

mad January 18, 2008 7:12 AM

I was plagued by random disconnects. Trouble was, each time I called the unHelp folks I got a different answer to the problem. Finally, I switched ISPs (went to Verizon). And that solved the problem. Way cheaper too!

JenJen's Place January 18, 2008 4:18 PM

Eiks Mariuca! Streamyx also ever asked me to change the network card one time and another time change my modem because they said it is spoiled! And guess what, I stupidly go and did that but it still does not work! In the end, Streamyx discover that it is their line problem. I lodge a complaint and request for compensation. But guess what, they say sorry but not their problem (in nicer words..) GGRRR...

Bobby Revell January 18, 2008 5:07 PM

Hahaha...Your port needs to be reset? Hahahahahaha....next time they say that...say, "Which one? There are 1056 ports!!!!!"

There's no such thing as resetting a port. It's definitely your ISP. Wow, I thought I had heard them all but streamyx takes the cake! I am so glad you're back up Marzie...the blogosphere isn't the same without the Genie Princess:):):)

kimfei January 18, 2008 5:35 PM

tats the broadband that offer for mobility, nowadays,u always see the maxis and celcom promote on the usb modem..tats the modem tat offer HSPDA tech..can max reach 3.6Mbps..

Mariuca January 18, 2008 7:12 PM

Leslie!! LOL... you must have a big bone to pick with Streamyx, but then again..who doesn't right?!! ;)

Mariuca January 18, 2008 7:15 PM

Hola Mad, welcome to Mariuca's blog! Tell me abt their inconsistency in answers la! Forever giving me all sorts of different answers (usually wrong!) whenever I have a problem and I'd end up solving the problem on my own! So what's the point of having a customer service centre right???? :(:(:(

Mariuca January 18, 2008 7:18 PM

Aiyo Jen!!!! It's good to see that I'm not imagining things and Streamyx is actually really bad! They tried too trick me once and refused to compensate me for the time I was disconnected for more than 2 months!! But I got all my facts right, and threw a huge tantrum and they gave me the rebate, but the point is why do they like to make things more difficult instead of easier for their customers?!!! :(:(:(

Mariuca January 18, 2008 7:22 PM

Thanks Bobby! It's good to be back. Yeah, Streamyx takes the cake don't they? Lolz.... just don't make me throw another tantrum la, they won't like it when GP gets MAD! ;)

Mariuca January 18, 2008 7:23 PM

Kim Fei, thanks so much for taking the time to respond to my question. I shall have to look into that option as well, have a great weekend k! :):):)

Mariuca January 18, 2008 7:24 PM

LJ! I will and if u can see here, so many ppl gave me diff new options yay! Thanks peeps! :)

Nessa January 20, 2008 5:07 PM

Eh, not TMNet but the parent company...

Mariuca January 21, 2008 12:08 AM

Nessa, I see... if parent company oredi like dat, what more TM! ;)

LadyJava September 30, 2008 11:48 PM
