Hoping For a Miracle

I spoke to my mom for almost an hour yesterday. Besides her usual stories on baby Isabella and stuff that’s been going on at home, she reminded me of our scheduled visit to see my ailing uncle this weekend. He's been in and out of the hospital for several years now, battling cancer, which has unfortunately taken a turn for the worse recently. I felt rather sad listening to this update from my mom and recalled how my uncle, who once was hale and hearty, has now reduced to a mere fraction of his former self. Gaunt and weak, he even had difficulties recognizing me the last time I visited him at the hospital.

Nearing 65, my uncle is indeed fortunate to have nine children who have been by his side ever since this disease claimed his health; never once giving up hope on their dad's recovery. Putting their own lives on hold, all of them have been taking turns to care for him during his constant hospitalization. Despite the many care home options available for the sick and the elderly, they prefer to care for their dad themselves. It's really touching to see them come together as a family; forming support for one another, in hopes of nursing their beloved dad back to health.

I wish there was something more I could do for my uncle to lessen his pain and fear of what lies ahead. Aside from showing him support and giving words of encouragement during my visits, I can only hope for the best. For now, I’m taking comfort in knowing my uncle is receiving the best possible medical treatment for his disease. It’s also wonderful to see his children showering him with lots of tender loving care during this extremely trying time. That in itself is probably the best cure for him at this moment but till we find one that works, I’m still hoping for a miracle.

Yup Marzie, there is nothing better than seeing the children care for their own dad. That alone is a cure in itself. Kudo's to them. And I hope you uncle gets better soon ...

Hi Sayang!
I'm feeling bad hearing abt Uncle's bad health & tht it is worsening now....
I Pray god that his pain be lessened & he stays happy till his last.
He is really lucky to have such wonderful sons/daughters to take care of him & not to have sent him to some care taking home.
may his pain lessen & that he stays for some more time.
U too Visit him often so that he can recognize u well the next time u go to meet him.

Let God Help him out & reduce pain & misery.
Regards & Best Wishes,

GP! Your uncle is fortunate to have his nine kids there to look after and care for him in his time of need. At least he will have comfort in knowing that he has brought them up well and hopefully he will draw strength from their deeds too!

Miracles do happen!

Hey GP dearest...

I know how u feel and u are a wonderful niece to have compassion for your uncle who is quite sickly at this moment. I too have an uncle who has been going in and out of hospital due to heart problems. He even had to perform a heart surgery during one of his stays there. I am hoping for a miracle for him, and i am also hoping for a miracle for your uncle too. With all the love and support that he is getting especially from his children, i am sure he will have the strength to pull through his illness. =)

I appreciate your words of comfort here dear Nafa, thanks so much! Hugs.... :):):)

GP, my grandpa passed away because of cancer. Sadly, my uncle is now ill too. He has bone cancer. His bones are very brittle and the last I heard from my brother, uncle cannot go for chemo as he's very weak.

He has lost so much weight and it's worse because he worries about his kids as he is the sole breadwinner of the family. Dahla they are poor.

When I was in Kuching, my siblings and I visited him a few times, brought food and all, but he didn't eat much because his body was already rejecting food.

Right now I can only pray for him.

I'm sorry for your loss too. *hugs*
