Keep Healthy this Birthday

Today is the 26th of August and my Virgo buddy DD turns a year older. I'd like to wish her a HAPPY BIRTHDAY on her special day and here's to many more birthdays and good health always.

I too will be turning a year older in a matter of days and as one gets older, one tends to place more emphasis on health. I am not excluded so I'd like to write a little reminder post for all my lady friends to take care of themselves better, specifically when it comes to breast cancer.


Several risk factors come into play in the development of breast cancer and they include:

* Female gender
* Increasing age
* Personal history of breast cancer or previous breast biopsies
* Family history
* Genetic factors
* Hormonal factors (earlier age at first period, later age at birth of first child, later age at menopause, having no children)

Looking at the list alone is enough to give me the chills. And the best way to put my mind at ease is scheduling a screening session at my Doctor soon. As they say, the best defense is a good offense and though there are no perfect breast cancer treatment for the different breast cancer stages right now, there are many other things one can do to reduce your risk.

I am leaving you with a list of eight, keep safe and stay healthy ladies!

1. Regular screening tests for metastatic breast cancer
2. Maintain a healthy body weight (BMI less than 25).
3. Minimize or avoid alcohol.
4. Consume plenty of fruits and vegetables.
5. Exercise regularly.
6. Consume whole food soy products regularly such as tofu, roasted soy nuts, soy milk and miso.
7. Maintain a healthy daily supplements regime.
8. Keep a positive mental outlook.
