I had the biggest shock of my blogging life today when I received an email from Entrecard saying that my account for Wishing On A Falling Star has been deleted!!! Can you imagine me being ousted by EC? Me, the one who drops 300 cards almost daily, who advertises like mad on other people's blogs and who has been promoting EC to those who are not members yet?! What went wrong??? Here's the email.
Your account 'Wishing On A Falling Star' on entrecard.com has been deleted. The administrator gave the following reason:
Rule 11: Please contact support@entrecard.com if you remove the audio.
Please contact deleted@entrecard.com if you have any questions regarding this action.
It was about ten minutes away from breaking fast when I received the email and naturally, I was in no mood to break my fast. So I immediately wrote to the EC support team asking my account to be reinstated and this is what I wrote.
Hi there! I am the author of Wishing On A Falling Star and I received a very shocking email today informing me that my account has been deleted! I am hereby requesting for my EC account to be reinstated. Apparently I have defaulted rule 11 below, which I was totally unaware of seeing that I’ve come across many other blogs with the same audio content on their blogs.
Rule 11
No autoplaying audio: This includes music that plays automatically when you visit the page, or short audio ads that come up unannounced.
As requested, I have removed my audio widget for now and hope to get my account reinstated asap. My question however is will I still be able to have my audio widget back at my blog ON THE CONDITION that I set the widget to NOT be on autoplay? That means my music will no longer be on autoplay but will only be on when and if someone presses the play button. Do let me know if this is okay.
Thank you for your time and I hope to receive a favorable response from you asap! I have been a strong supporter of EC ever since day 1, so am really hoping for a favorable outcome from you. Thanks again!

Hi, thanks for the update, your account has been reinstated.
It is absolutely fine to have music that only plays when someone clicks the Play button. This is a recent change in our quality standards, so until recently, sites with autoplaying audio were permitted.
We are communicating this in an email to all members in the next week or so. It has been announced on the Entrecard Blog and in the forums, but we will send an email to ensure everyone is aware.
Apologies for the inconvenience caused, and thanks once again for making the change so promptly.

I was so relieved to hear that my EC account has been reinstated and quickly logged in to see the status of my account. Thank goodness my thousands of credits, which I've been working so hard to collect were still intact. However, I had another shock when I saw that my EC price had been somewhat reset and it had dropped drastically from 1024EC a day to a mere 4EC a day, which actually turned out well for those who seized this opportunity to quickly advertise with me at such a low price LOL! ;)
What horrified me the most however was when I realized that my list of advertisers who were lined up to advertise at my blog for the next 9 days or so was MISSING! That was a big downer for me since I couldn't remember my advertisers who already paid to advertise on my blog! I am truly sorry for this inconvenience and I apologize to all my advertisers. I did not see this coming and I sincerely hope this will not deter you from returning to advertise with Mariuca! Believe me when I say that I am just as upset about this as you are! :(
I would however, like to say thank you to the EC Support Team, especially to Ben who personally wrote me back, explaining the situation to me. Honestly, I was unaware of this new rule that EC has set forth for its users, so I would like to remind my readers who are also EC members, to please check out the updated EC rules so you can avoid the same thing from happening to you. I'd hate to see this happen to you or anyone else. Sigh! And to think that I was looking forward to a nice relaxing holiday today; what a shocker it turned out to be instead!

Thanks for posting this. I was also unaware of this new updated rules and hope that Entrecard admin would take that into consideration before deleting accounts or they might risk losing strong supporters like you, me and a few hundreds other.

Tu la, I just did not expect this and I have to agree, that a warning would have been a more courteous way to do it, but apparently it was announced at the EC forum. Prob is, I don hang out at the forum and I'm sure most of our friends don't either! So better let them know here. ;)
Anyway, I guess I just have to make the best of my current situation and hope my advertisers will come back! Oh he he...when I saw ur ads coming in, I thought u were on a major EC shopping spree, rupa-rupanya 4 EC he he!!! That's a great rule to have.
I think you could work the other way around, instead of auto-play, use a player that gives the user the option whether to play or not.

This just adds fuel to my fire. All these damn rules by EC, by Technorati, etc. Why on earth can't you play audio. It's your site and you should be able to do whatever you want. "Rule #11"....how many damn rules do they have anyway.
It is this type of behavior that prompted me to start SlogBite. BTW, your comments were quite useful.
My rules are quite simple. I only have 2....one for the "A" list and one for the "B" list.
I am still about a month from official launch, but I am accepting participants. I would be honored if you would come by and add your sites to as many categories as makes sense for you. If you would like a category added, just let me know and I will.

Hi Paul, thanks for ur comment! The thing is, my music was on minimum volume and I never knew it was a problem with EC. I would've happily switched it off my auto-play if I had known it would cost me my account!

Mariuca, I am glad to hear that they have reinstated your account. They just recently introduced these new guidelines and if you haven't been in the EC forums it is very easy to miss it.
It's also great to know that Ben was able to get back to you personally and promptly on this matter.

wow marzie, this was definitely a whirlwind week for you. Glad to know that everything is starting to get back to normal. Whew.. My sister too had the same problem but not about the auto music, apparently EC deleted her account because they couldnt find and detect her posts which was weird. But it has something to do with the freewebs server so my sister till now is being bitter with signing up with entrecard again and for the meantime is just busy going around using other traffic means. Sigh got to admit me and my baby had gone through a lot this week and am happy to report that all is finally smoothening out. weird weird week hehehe :)

I had all day meetings in NYC yesterday and missed my 300EC drops on Roxy's Best Of... for the first time since I signed that blog up for EntreCard. Hoping I can do better with my rounds today, but I've got serious work to do all day and Back to School Night tonight. And Friday is my 10th anniversary with Rex! I will hope for a bit of rest and relaxation at the beach this weekend.

I didn't know they have such rule of not allowing autoplay audio. I've seen quite a numbers of blogs with audio and EC, I guess they have also sent out emails to those bloggers.

Maybe they have should send this notification mail BEFORE they delete those accounts... I subscribed to the blog and was aware of that, but sure not everybody subscribed and however that's not an obligation. Sometimes EC overreacts a bit too much...

I read about their rule change on some other blog and am very happy to see they're getting rid of blogs with autoplay music... They should have made a bigger effort communicating the rule change before actually starting to delete blogs though.
Some of the new rules are really great and will improve the quality of the EC network so much :-) Can't wait to see some stupid blogs disappear from EC. ^_^

I panicked and was lost for a moment because I had lots of EC credits in my account. I emailed Ben and he was so CALM. haha... I look so stupid now. He helped me get back my deleted account. Wheee!!

I think there really should be a forewarning before entrecard deletes a blog. Maybe first offense email giving the owner of the site a chance to fix the issue on the blog that is in violation of the rules with a number of days to accomplish the change. Oh well, Let's bring these comments and suggestions here from your site marzie and email it to the entrecard support team. They have to know all our points of view as all of these concerns and suggestions are valid in their own right :)

Anyways, I came back to the blogosphere and saw a number of my bloggers friends that went through the same thing you did. Some just didn't care to reinstate their EC account because they feel bullied into not having the right to do as they please on their own blog.
Sorry to hear about the all the lost advertising to people who already paid. What a bummer. You must be so upset. They should have at least circulated a warning email for the new rule before they just deleted it, doncha think?
I agree with the others. Entrecard could have at least issued a warning first before deleting you from the database. It's also not fair for them to restrict whatever you want to put on your site. For everyone's sake, I hope the revise their rules soon.
I'm glad you got it straightened out Marzie. I didn't realize you had music because I have my sound turned down and watch TV while I blog. I wouldn't care if they canceled it for me, I hardly use it anyway.

Maybe too many ppl were complaining about the autoplay audio on blogs, although I gotta say my music was just a single song, and a very soothing sad love tune too. It wasn't some loud music or anything disturbing, but EC has the last say, so bye-bye music for me! :(
