Dead Body Outside My Window!

OMG OMG OMG!!! Somebody just fell down from the 16th floor of my condo building! And right in front of my balcony too, where the playground is! OMG OMG OMG!!!

It was a little after 5am and I was still up writing a new post for my blog. Suddenly there was a very loud thud, followed by a scream! The next thing I knew I heard footsteps and people talking really loud. I couldn't make out the conversation as they were speaking in Tamil, but I had a sinking feeling that something was terribly wrong.

B was already asleep, but I woke him up. He initially dismissed my panic as trivial, saying that it was probably a couple having an argument out there, but the voices got louder and we could hear a girl crying and screaming hysterically! B was fully awake by then and we went into the living room to see what was going on.

We looked out our sliding glass door and there was a young girl clad in blue sitting down on the ground, crying and screaming incoherently. A small crowd had gathered and they mostly comprised our building's security guards. It was also then that I noticed a guy on the ground, motionless and dead as the girl continued crying and screaming! One of the female guards was shouting for this girl to stop her racket. I thought the guard was way too harsh. After all, the girl was in total shock, and she had every right to scream and yell! We heard the female guard screaming at this girl to "Shut your mouth and wait there for the police to come. Kami nampak awak tolak dia (We saw you pushed him)"! Unfazed, the girl continued crying, all the while saying something like "Bukan saya, saya tak bunuh dia" (It wasn't me, I didn't kill him) to the crowd and "Baby, baby why are you doing this to me?" as she tried in vain to rouse the unmoving guy! I was pretty upset with the Guard for accusing the young girl of any such crime. Firstly, it was dark when he fell and secondly, he fell from the 16th floor. So how was it possible that the Guard claimed to have seen what actually happened from way down below?

Anyway, by then I was totally freaked out and so was Phoebe, who came running into the living room, all shaky and afraid. The ambulance and police arrived and we heard the girl crying to the police and anyone who would listen to her, to please call his parents and her brother. Photographers arrived soon after and in the darkness of the early morning, I was suddenly blinded by camera flash everywhere! I wanted to take pictures as well but I was too scared and didn't want to be seen when my flash goes off in the dark!

There was no way I could sleep after this whole incident, especially when the body was still lying outside my window! They police taped off the area where the body fell and it was almost light when they finally removed the body. I watched the whole process from behind my living room curtain, afraid but curious to see and know what actually happened. I did manage to capture these 2 shots as it was already light out and there was no need for camera flash.

Residents had started coming out to start their day by then and a crowd gathered right below my balcony, discussing what happened. Apparently, the deceased was the young girl's boyfriend and he fell from the 16th floor! We do not know if it was an accident or the couple was arguing and something happened. But one way or another, the guy (I heard one of the residents said he was only 20!) is now dead.

I'm still a bit shaken by the whole incident but I know nothing can beat the misery and pain of the girlfriend, who had just lost her boyfriend in the most heart-rending way. The police later escorted her back to her condo unit. We don't know what happened to her but we do hope she is okay. I can't imagine what is going through her mind right now! Although we don't have all the facts, I don't think I'd ever come to terms with such a tragic death especially if it involved a loved one. And this terrible incident happened right in front of my condo unit too! By the way, it's also Friday the 13th today, pure coincidence? I dare not say!
