As you all know, traveling is one of my favorite things to do. Whenever B and I have some extra cash and we feel that it's time for a much-deserved break from work, our thoughts automatically turn to traveling. It doesn't matter if it's a mere hotel weekend stay in KL or an exciting adventure in a foreign country; we'd still have a wonderful time anticipating the arrival of that day.
As much as I love traveling overseas, I can't stay away from home for too long. Two weeks is the maximum amount of time I can stay in a foreign country before feeling homesick. Our last vacation in Tokyo saw me eagerly waiting to board the plane home after enjoying a fun-filled week of Japanese culture and lifestyle. Though I loved every minute of our Tokyo vacation, I was also looking forward to going home to my cats and my cozy home office. Apparently, once the initial excitement of a vacation wears off, I just can't wait to go home and sleep in my own bed!
I guess home is really where my heart is, especially now that I'm in a very comfortable position in my life. I'm running my own business from home, B is doing well at his job, all our loved ones and friends are here and we even have a condo to our name. I've grown so accustomed to my current lifestyle that I'd find it inconvenient if we had to start fresh in another place. It's great to travel to a foreign country occasionally and experience the excitement each destination has to offer, but relocating to a new country for a few years or indefinitely, is an entirely different commitment; one that we are not ready for right now. Furthermore, the idea of packing and uprooting ourselves from the comforts of our home to move to another country sure sounds tedious.
Speaking of relocation, a friend of mine is planning to pursue her Master's Degree in Florida and is now busy scouting around for a suitable place she can call home during her 3-year stay. Though I am a tad envious at the thought of her enjoying beautiful Florida for the next 3 years, I certainly don't envy all the packing and running around she's currently doing in preparation of her relocation. So I'm really glad that we'll be staying put for a while, right here in Malaysia. Aside from the familiarity and stability we are currently blessed with right now, I know I'll definitely miss all my local favourite delights if we had to relocate to another country. Take this delicious char kuey teow for instance - I seriously doubt I'd be able to stay away from it for too long!

There is no place like home Marzie! I do think about moving from where I'm at. After this place was destroyed after hurricane Katrina, it's starting to come alive. If we get another storm like that, I will leave...haha!
Sorry to hear you've been having computer problems. My site is having major problems right now and I hope they get fixed soon!

LJ! Enjoy ur fave kuey teow here ok, u dah habis pantang right? :) Oh don worry, I won't be going anywhere for a while, until I become a millionaire and can afford a proper vacation home somewhere nice he he he.. :)
That's right Bobby! There's just no place like home but I don't mind visiting other countries for a vacation, not to stay there for good though! ;)
And I am having major PC probs Bobby!!!! In fact, my PC just shut down on me while I was answering ur comment here and had to be restarted! :( Hope ur site gets fixed soon.

Hubs just suggested that we go for a short holiday. I'm so excited, but cant bear to leave the 2 boys behind leh. The sinful dish is making me so hungry now. I just remember that I've not eaten fried kuay teow for a long time now. Will try to have it this weekend *yum yum*
Wah a holiday without the boys? You think u can stand that ah Janice? Anyway, I hope u do get to go for ur vakasi soon, they're always so rejuvenating for me! And you know what? I don't think I can wait for the weekend to eat this kuey teow, maybe tonight lolz.. :)

Hey Erisha, I know what u mean by that oh no lolz... oh well, it's been a while right? So one plate wouldn't hurt! Enjoy... :)
GP, I love travelling too (and we are going off again next month)! but, like you, I always look forward coming back home, no matter how great the place is. it's always something to look forward to in your own home sweet home. your bed, your pillow, even the simplest silliest thing matters kan?
and yes! food! i am so very particular about food (fussy too) and i always don't enjoy food much whenever I am away (except for India, I totally enjoyed the food there). and yes, that CKT looks totally heavenly! **telan air liur**
Hola Farah! Wah, so nice going for vakasi, where to? Food is usually not a problem with me, as long as it is for 2 weeks max, any longer than that and I'll be craving rice oredi!
I've never been to India! Would love to go there one day too. :)
you are most welcome to india.... do let me know if you are coming & i would love to receive you both at the airport...
many times i have felt home sickness when i used to go on work for months together..
but some how manage with the local environment & get adjusted to that place...also i'm used up with travel....the first thing i do is to hunt if there is any friend of mine staying there..
will collect his/her address...keep in touch...
also try to make lot of new friends whom i can trust at times...
so life goes on...
relocating to a new place is a tough challenge.....like you rightly said....
there is nothing much big at my home town...still i get peace of mind staying here...... & spending as much time as possible ....
any ways life has to go.....& we have to sacrifice lot of things to get few things............
All the very best.
Raghav, thanks for ur insightful comment. And I was just thinking of you when I mentioned India here! Good to know I'll have a place to stay if I do visit India one day lol.. :)
I guess if you travel a lot, it makes relocating a bit simpler. And you're right about having to make certain sacrifices to accommodate ur new surroundings. Which is why I'm glad, I'll be staying put for now! ;)
u are from Singapore? I think I know what to eat for luch, looks tempting!
Do drop by my site
the Food looks Deelish*
I wanna travel anywhere WARM!!
maybe Florida soon*
;))
Peace*
I do understand your point of view, but as you say: to travel and see new places is exciting too. As you know, we have a vacation home in Sweden, so why don't we swap? :-)
As you have seen on my blog: there is a lot of great food in Scandinavia too.
Hola Haney, welcome to Mariuca's blog! I'm from Malaysia actually, close enough though! :)
And sure, I'll come visit ur blog as well, thanks and I hope u enjoyed ur lunch! ;)
Wow Renny, a vacation home in Sweden, that sounds totally awesome! I've not been to Scandinavia, must get myself there one fine day. Till then, I'll be visiting ur blog for more yummy delights! :)
Hola Billy, great to see u here! :) Ooooh, I'd love to visit Florida, never got the chance to during my uni days in the US. And hey, enjoy this yummy dish ok, u have to try it if u ever do come down to Malaysia. :)
you & Mr.B are most welcome to my place in india.... it may not be a palace...but definitely heaven for your stay during u'r visit to india...
please do let me know atleast a month in advance so that we can plan & prepare for the trip & try to cover as much place as possible in south india....
chennai, bangalore, ooty, kodai, mysore.... all these places i can take you....
take care....
keep in touch....
once you start travelling you don't have time or heart to see back at things....just proceed towards the destination...
as you said....i have lost the sickness & i don't feel while on trip.....
some times it happens during stress as to why the hell i'm getting rotten all alone some where with out any one...but if that is the destiny....we have to go through all those things...can't help out...
Hi Raghav, thanks so much for ur gracious offer, that's really kind of you! We shall definitely look u up if ever we do go to India. I bet you'd make a great tour guide!
I hope things work out for u in terms of ur busy traveling life, and perhaps one day you won't be traveling alone anymore, hopefully soon. Hang in there! :)
GP, agree two week's the limit! more than that, I'll be homesick already! LOL
