House Hunting

My friend G, dropped by last night with some great news - he is finally ready to do some serious house hunting! We were slightly surprised at this new development in his life as he's never taken anything seriously and purchasing a home is undoubtedly a huge commitment. We realized that when we purchased our first home four years ago.

We spent several hours relating our home-buying experience to him. I especially stressed the importance of shopping around first before purchasing a home. I wish I had done that when we were house hunting. For whatever reason I fail to see now, I was in a hurry to buy a home that particular year and I fell in love with the first option I set my eyes on. The price was within our budget and the location was excellent; just a short distance from B's office. I was immediately sold and we hastily made our purchase. It was only later, when I discovered other better homes in the surrounding area, that I started regretting buying a home too soon. I should have shopped around more before deciding so quickly. That's definitely one mistake I will not repeat when we purchase our second home!

Being first-time owners, it is also completely normal to feel a bit overwhelmed by the many Homeowner Loans available in the market so it's vital to choose one that suits your needs and lifestyle
. Aside from excellent interest rates, I prefer loans that offer greater flexibility. After selecting the best loan option for us, we waited anxiously while our application was processed. Banks are at times unpredictable and if our application were rejected, it would mean a setback in our home-buying effort. Fortunately, our loan was promptly approved, and two years later, we moved into our first home, where I'm happily writing this post from right now!

Buying a new home can be a wonderful experience so I hope G will take his time to choose the right dream home for himself. We're actually proud of him for even considering buying a home. It's like a big step in his life as a single 34-year-old guy, who was never really ready to commit to anything major previously. He has also been showing commendable work progress lately and now he's ready to make this life-changing purchase. It really looks like our dear G is finally growing up! Now, if only he can find a nice girl to settle down with, life would be complete and we can all finally live happily ever after. Happy house hunting G!

GP! Perhaps he already has someone in mind to move into the new house with him....lolzz...

Seriously though.. buying a home is a great commitment and a lot of headache and a drain on the finances. But if you can get things in perspective.. it is a great experience and rewarding experience.. I know first hand :)

Mariuca February 28, 2008 6:20 AM

Ha ha ha LJ..I think dia nak kahwin, that's why wants to buy house all...lolz...but seriously la he's still single and looking!

Oh yeah, tell me about it LJ. It was very new for us to, I really wish I had waited just a tad longer, but anyway am happy with our purchase in the end. Cause rumah sendiri and nothing feels greater than that sense of ownership! :)

PS. I'm loving the fact that we're both up at this ungodly hour! :)

LadyJava February 28, 2008 6:22 AM

Yeah woman.. isn't it insane??? I just finished watching the latest on B&B... Crazy lah si Rick tu.. syiok with his ex-gf's mother..and I hope Taylor get some sense into herself and not get involved with this boy.. sat ni.. Brooke will become her MIL! LOLZZZ!

Mariuca February 28, 2008 6:28 AM

Lolz..totally insane, I wonder what time we'll be up tomorrow! I just finished dl yesterday's ep, haven't seen it yet. Agree with Rick being crazy, takde hujan takde ribut want to fall in love with Taylor. And I just don't find him attractive at all, Taylor deserves so much better! ;)

LadyJava February 28, 2008 6:32 AM

Oh definitely, Taylor should like find someone outside the Forester or Marone clan. All of them have been touched by Brooke one way or another.. I used to think Nick was better or at least different.. now I see him as the same lah.. so desperate for a child lahh... and then used it to get Brooke back.. Miracle lah.. meant to be lah.. then how about Hope and RJ?? Don't they deserve to be with two parents as well? Apadah!!....

Mariuca February 28, 2008 6:37 AM

OMG LJ!! My sentiments exactly! That's exactly how I feel abt Nick now, he disappointed me to da max in this Taylor dilemma! And he keeps on saying that Taylor yang walk out on the marriage, but hello...she's not the one pining away for a lost love right? I hate Nick la! :(

LadyJava February 28, 2008 6:42 AM

Lolzz.. tulah I feel that they are trying too hard to over analyze stuff..in fact I was already pissed off at him when he really wanted to know who the egg donor was when he thought he might be Brooke's. I mean what's the difference right? They would not have known anyway.. so why must he know if it was Brooke or an anonymous donor. Saja cari pasal tu!!

Mariuca February 28, 2008 6:46 AM

And remember when Bridget caught them holding hands at Insomnia?!! What was up with that? Dah kahwin buat la cara dah kahwin! And yesterday too he was defending Brooke to Taylor, pity Taylor la. She's too beautiful for him anyway. Taylor belongs with Ridge in terms of their good looks, suitable. :) Eh, pity Stephanie la yesterday!

LadyJava February 28, 2008 6:56 AM

Tulah today si Brooke told him "i have you deep deep in my heart" "i want to be your wife, to be with you but I can't." Ptui! lolzzz...

Yeah actually I like her to be with Ridge. But Ridge tu nak kena mandi bunga agaknyer to forget about Brooke..lolzz.. Err Stef? oh pasal gambar Eric on the ledge tu ke!! ehehhe..comical gila..ooh another logan sister yg bodoh.... can't stand Donna either.. she so dead set that Eric is in love with her when I think its just s*x lahh..lust.. almaklum young woman...hehhehe..good for his ego!

Mariuca February 28, 2008 7:04 AM

Ha ha ha ha Ptui indeed LJ lolz!! And now she's pretending to be the innocent party, like she never asked for all this, padahal she was flirting with him whilst engaged to Ridge. Ridge is so dense sometimes, wake up and smell the cappuccino la!! As for Donna, I just don't like her personality or her looks! :(

LadyJava February 28, 2008 7:08 AM

Maybe we should be Ridge a coffee machine or something...brew it extra extra strong.. so he smell all the caffeine..lolzzz.. Lucky si Donna tu tak marry Thorne kan?? What is it with these Logan girls... is there nothing sacred between the bonds of father and son.. ish.. semua mesti nak rasa! lolzzz.... ptui again...hehhehe

Mariuca February 28, 2008 7:17 AM

I didn't feel her chemistry with Thorne, even less with Eric..in love konon ptui lolz...I blame Eric also, reborn again it seems. He's making himself look pathetic by being with Donna, Steph is right! :)

LadyJava February 28, 2008 7:38 AM

Tak sedar diri Eric tu...so old already baru nak tunjuk belang.. ish.. crazy lah these man.. oklah dearie.. i think nak bf sat and then perhaps catch some zzzz... nanti wakeup nak gi JPJ..nak renew my licence.. as always nice chatting with you dearie..muahssss!!!

Mariuca February 28, 2008 7:42 AM

Likewise LJ! Have a good breakfast and I'll catch up with u later. Me too gonna zzz now... :)

Farah Deen February 28, 2008 6:41 PM

Raghav February 29, 2008 2:32 AM

Hi Sweet Heart,
I so happens most of the times... i too had made similar blunder....in a hurry....& as the budget matched...i purchases a home....then after a month or so after registration...i noticed that i could not bring my long car to be parked inside the gate...only small cars could be parked....

what to do???
:'(
there was no other go......
i just kept it aside...occupied the new home....
now looking for a new home after 3 years....which can house a rather big SUV..... hope i get one such home soon.....
now a days parking area charges are very huge & we have to be careful i selecting the place....
there r lot of criteria's.... before purchasing home..
hope u have had the experience....
our mind is like monkey... jumping from one tree to another....
initially i too thought the same...
within a month or two...i was able to get lot of offers....but how will i dispose the present asset?????/
also as there was a huge loan....i had to wait till i settle up.... with the finance....
any ways hope Mr. G will do his bit of homework before investing! now a days there is no problem & in getting a bank loan...though the percentage interest may work out to be slightly expensive.....
buying a home is the best solution...
u can do what ever you want with u'r home.... not like a rented premises.... where u should worry for the flooring, colouring... & many such small things....
if it is u'r own....u will be alert.....
:)

Mariuca February 29, 2008 1:18 PM

Mariuca February 29, 2008 1:20 PM

Hey Raghav! I agree...no better feeling like living in the home that you own! Thanks for sharing ur experience with us. I'm glad I'm not the only one who has made a hasty decision in choosing a home, I've definitely learned my lesson and will be more patient and careful with our next home. Have a great weekend Raghav! :)

Nick Phillips (15/03/1967 - 04/11/2022) February 29, 2008 4:38 PM

You know Marzie, talking about home loans and all just brings back bad memories of me saving forever just to buy an apartment in USJ only to have it get abandon before it's even completed and the worst thing is, it turned out to be the first abandoned project in USJ, talk about bad freaking luck! Well, at least I have GK to keep me company with it cos he bought one unit in the same place too ... LOL!

Jean Chia aka Ms.Yummy~licious February 29, 2008 5:34 PM

LOLZ, you ladies are talking about bold & beautiful? funny ler both you & LJ! :D

oh, i wish G all the best in choosing his first home!

Mariuca February 29, 2008 7:02 PM

Hi Nick, that is really bad luck, some more GK is in on it too he he...thank goodness my place was ready on time, in fact I didn't move in after a year we got the keys! So, did u get back ur money or burn just like that??

Mariuca February 29, 2008 7:03 PM

LOL Jean!! Feel free to join us, but I doubt you're into B&B? Anyway, thanks...I hope my friend will find the best option for him! Have a good weekend Jean! :)

BTW, i often got the 'operation aborted' error when visiting your blog recently. Not sure whether it is a problem from your blog or my IE. Just to let you know.

Have a great weekend!

Mariuca March 01, 2008 3:08 AM

Hey MT, thanks for letting me know abt the error msg, I dunno what that was but I really hope it's not my blog, that would be terrible! :( Anyway, I'll drop by for some health tips! ;)

Nick Phillips (15/03/1967 - 04/11/2022) March 01, 2008 10:51 PM

Urmmm, what money back? You know how these things work la, they've got all sorts of excuses. Going to revive the project and all, but that was ages ago, habuk pun tada!

Mariuca March 02, 2008 3:02 AM

Aiyo...heartpain la u Nick! I can imagine all the silly excuses they're feeding you with. Best to try and forget abt the investment, I hope it wasn't much! :)

Nick Phillips (15/03/1967 - 04/11/2022) March 03, 2008 10:18 AM

Urrrmmm, it was my entire life savings, that's why I'm a vagrant living in a bus stop now ... LOL!

I hate conniving, lying, scheming housing developers who just takes all your hard earned cash and run ...

Mariuca March 03, 2008 8:05 PM

Hey Nick, have u tried giving them a Nick Phillips "special"? Scare them into acting on your problem!! ;)
