In Love With A Dream

When G dropped by last night, he was in wonderful spirits; a welcomed change from the melancholy he was in the last time we met. I was glad to see our jovial jester back in form, ever ready with a witty remark and a joke. A new job is also in the pipeline so G was poised with renewed faith and confidence.

When I asked him the reason for this change, G was more than willing to share. He told me that he was in love with someone new! The new lady in his life happens to be somewhat of a celebrity, though relegated over the past few years to an almost defunct singer. Recent circumstances however, shoved her back into the limelight and on one fateful night, G met her at a club.

He was immediately smitten by this singer’s charm. She had the looks, the grace and the right air about her. More importantly, she’s blessed with high, prominent cheek bones, which totally drives G wild when it comes to girls! According to G, their overpowering chemistry was unmistakable. When she threw a smile his way, G was in disbelief. When they locked glances, he was on cloud nine and when they finally exchanged words, G resigned himself to Cupid’s arrow!

Despite not having her number or not knowing when he’ll ever see her again, G insists that she could be the one and he’s counting on serendipity to reunite them. Now, as much as I adore G, I ventured the notion that perhaps his enthusiasm is just a tad far-fetched. Don’t get me wrong; I’m all for romance, I truly believe in soul mates and I do shed a tear or two when watching happy-ending movies. I’m usually extremely optimistic when it comes to love but the key word here is love, not like nor lust.

I told G rather bluntly that he’s in love with a mere dream but he’d have none of that. He’s utterly convinced that I’m wrong and is fiercely holding on to his dream of meeting her once again. His conviction was reinforced when the said singer appeared on TV several days after their chance encounter, announcing her singlehood, which G took to mean as some sort of signal from her to him.

Being the supportive Virgo that I am, I relented after a while and indulged G in his momentary bliss. I told him to prove me wrong and if he does end up in love with this singer, I’d take back my every doubt. The thing is I truly believe that G’s soul mate is out there somewhere, and right now she’s just a little lost from her path to finding G. She may not be a singer or she may not have fantastic cheek bones, but she’d definitely fit nicely in his pocket and she’d be the one who’d truly understand the real him.

Till then, G will continue to chase his dream. And I’m left wondering if he’ll be too engrossed with his quest that he’ll let his true love slip by and lose the rare chance at finding the real thing.
